How do the Travel Experts save us money?
Almost every business in Costa Rica offers a Referral / Commission in their companies business model. In many cases Referrals may account for up to 60% or more of any given companies business (especially the tourism sector & real estate). You as the client are paying this cost with or without a referral. It is already included in the price. Why not put some of that money back in your pocket? Between that and the special rates we recieve from some in our network adds up too savings for our clients.
We ask anywhere from 10 - 20% commission from our hotel affiliates. Of this 5-10% will be discounted back to you, the client. C.R. Referrals gives everything we make after operating expenses to help local area causes and Project Sanctuary - Costa Rica. Our service is free to our clients, they get excellent travel planning from tourism insiders and save money in the process.
What is Project Sanctuary - Costa Rica?
Project Sanctuary - Costa Rica is an idea that has come out of necessity. Services that are taken for granted in many countries around the world simply don't exist here. Costa Rica has no dog catchers, few shelters, no adequate facilities at all for a growing problem. Dogs and cats of all ages are dumped on the streets of Costa Rica every day. A lack of education and poverty leads to families and individuals not getting their animals fixed. This inevitably leads to babies who more often than not end up in the streets. Many foreigners try to do the best we can with what we have, but it falls way too short of any lasting impact.
Project Sanctuary - Costa Rica is just in its initial planning stages, but when finished, will be a small farm where abandoned and unwanted animals may find safety and love. The facility would provide medical treatment, a rigorous adoption program, regional educational programs, and free Spay & neutering clinics. STRONGLY against euthanasia.
In the end we would like to bring all the separate groups and individuals working on this problem, throughout Costa Rica, and later, Central America, together, to fight this on going issue. If successful we will be one of the first animal shelters in all of Costa Rica. The Sanctuary will be launching a website in 2010, until then check back here for updates.
Who are you?
C.R. Referrals is the brainchild of a group of people who were working in the Tourism Sector and Real Estate Sectors here in Costa Rica. They all share this in common, a love of Costa Rica and a love of animals of all kinds.
Many of the creators of this service spend much of their time rescueing animals and working for animal welfare here. We are all lifelong animal lovers and spend many of our free days, on the streets, doing what we can to help.
We came to the conclusion that more needs to be done. The idea of taking a common business practice here, providing what we know as Costa Rican insiders, and working in the Travel / Real Estate sectors, & getting local area businesses to address a problem that is happening in their own back yards. Seemed like common sense...
The decision to put two seperate companies under a single website was a business desicion, as we work towards a common goal.

Why is there no discount on Real Estate Referrals?
The Real Estate Consultants make more money than the Travel Experts, and is an important source of revenue for Project Sanctuary. In Real Estate, the numbers are bigger, but at the same time any discount we could give our clients would be small in the big scheme of things. Example: You the client, buy a house for 100k. A 5% commission goes to the Real Estate agent handling the deal, equaling 5k. Of that 5k C.R. Referrals gets 25% equaling $1250. Now if we than give 50% of that back to you totaling $625 that is a pretty small amount to the client who just spent 100k on a house. It however makes all the difference in the world for the work we are all trying to do here.
You save time and money with our Real Estate referrals by zeroing in more efficiently on the property you want, getting inside information about what's going on here in the real estate market, by people living here, and in the end getting an agent you can trust. No headaches.

How are the businesses in your referral network chosen?
Our Travel and Real Estate Experts have put together a list of companies, that in first hand experience in dealing with, and knowing personally, have shown a certain pride and dedication to the work they do. Many of the companies the Travel Experts use also hold "Certificates of Sustainable Tourism". These certificates are given out by the ICT to acknowledge businesses that go above and beyond in conservation, community programs, and sustainable (green) operations of there businesses.
Cost of services was not as important a consideration in putting together our database of affiliates. Quality of service, "green" practices in the day to day operation, and most important personal experience were the determining factors.
